Industry Code: 89924

Compulsory
Industry Custom Pricing - CR

This industry includes businesses that conduct investigations and may cover areas from criminal and civil cases to locating missing persons. Investigating or detective agencies are licensed as private investigators and do investigative work outside of the structure of regular police law enforcement.

Operation Details:

Investigation firms may also serve legal documents and compete with other companies that may specialize in this service. Document or process serving is done for various law firms to serve such legal documents as garnishees, statements of claim, judgements, etc. These firms may also investigate insurance fraud and provide general surveillance, internal theft surveillance, pre employment checks, motor vehicle checks, de-bugging, polygraph testing, etc.

Bailiff services, formerly performed through the Sheriff's office are classified in this industry. Bailiffs will serve legal documents, effect collection, seize assets, perform surveillance, and arrange for the transportation of seized property.

Oilfield scouting is also included in this industry. This scouting is done to obtain information for oil companies on the success rates of wells for sale. Through surveillance of the drilling site, a scout determines the depth a rig is drilling at, the flow of oil being obtained, and the type of rig being used. To determine if oil or gas has been located, a record is maintained of the equipment going onto the site.

Underwriting Considerations:

Security guard and patrol services are typically uniformed, identifiable as a protection/security service, and are classified in industry 89902.

Bailiff services conducted in conjunction with another business venture will be classified based on the overall operations to determine the 'best fit' industry.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2009. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
