Exhibition Associations and Agricultural Societies abide by the Agricultural Societies Act. Exhibition Associations and Agricultural Societies operate events for the benefit of the general public and encourage improvement in agriculture, horticulture, homemaking and quality of life in the agricultural community.

Operation Details:

Normally these associations/societies employ workers in hospitality based activities including food service, recreation and accommodation industries. Some workers may be paid and some may be volunteers. They may operate agricultural shows, rodeos, exhibitions, fairs, carnivals, farmers' markets, as well as operating horse racing tracks, arenas, curling rinks, bingos and building facilities.

Underwriting Considerations:

Sub groups/committees/auxiliaries are sometimes formed by Agricultural Societies to run various activities. The Society manages the overall activities and the sub groups report back to the society. The sub groups are part of the Agricultural Society.

Agricultural Societies and Exhibition Associations provide the facility but do not perform or compete in the event being held. An application to extend coverage to individuals participating in sporting activities will not be accepted, as these activities are exempted by the General Regulations.

Industry Custom Pricing: Modified Experience Rating and Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing. Effective January 1, 2010, employers in this industry participate in the Waiving Cost Relief option and the Modified Experience Rating option.

Under the Waiving Cost Relief option, costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.

With Modified Experience Rating option, the following experience rating features will be used in determining the premium rate for employers in the Large Employer Experience Rating Plan:

-Maximum discount or surcharge of 60%
-Maximum participation of 100%
-Maximum experience used of 100%
-Participation rate of 1% for every $2000 in premiums
