Industry Code: 89605
This is a supply and install industry where employers sell, install and repair equipment used in garages, service stations, car washes and bulk fuel stations.
Operation Details:
Equipment sold and serviced in this industry will include hoists, fuel pumps, compressors, electrical and mechanical measuring equipment, lubrication equipment, washing equipment and hydraulic jacks.
Businesses in this industry use service trucks and a variety of hand and power tools. Employers may use picker trucks or cranes to install pumps, hoists etc.
All employers in this industry are members of the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA). Safety associations represent the interests of employers and promote workplace safety through education and other initiatives. Improved workplace safety can result in fewer claims and help lower premiums. A portion of premiums collected is allocated to the association to support these initiatives.
Underwriting Considerations:
These employers do not usually perform the construction of service stations, bulk stations, etc, or other site preparation work. Work of this nature is usually performed by general contractors who will generally sub contract the installation of equipment.
This industry will include placing and hook up of underground tanks and hook up of upright storage tanks when incidental to the overall business of supplying service station equipment. Employers which specialize in installation of underground tanks are classified in industry 40604 and employers specializing in erection of above ground tanks are classified in industry 42156.
Employers which specialize in the environmental clean up of service stations sites to remove contaminated soil are classified in industry 40604.
Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option
This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2011. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
