This industry covers the operation of youth and religious camps.

Operation Details:

These youth camps are owned and operated by either religious groups or charitable organizations, and provide a service to youths ranging in age from 8 to 18 years. Programs are run for the summer months; during the rest of the year the facilities may be rented to various groups.

These camps provide a variety of programs in the areas of water sports and skills, crafts, camping and outdoor activities. Workers covered in this industry include a manager or director, cooks and assistants, recreation, waterfront, craft and outdoor instructors, janitor or maintenance staff. The janitor or maintenance staff are usually hired for year round work.

Underwriting Considerations:

When a church operates a religious/youth camp it is a compulsory industry and classified in this industry.

Employers in this industry often engage volunteer workers. For coverage of volunteer workers refer to policy 06-01 (part II).

This industry does not cover the participants/clients.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2010. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
