With consideration regarding maximum shift durations, industrial camps serving broad geographic regions may expect drop-in clients from various sectors working in these general locations.

Camps may be mobile and remote for short durations; permanent to semi-permanent, to service of a general region or site-specific for larger, more permanent client requirements. This industry will cover all types of camps designed to provide accommodation and sustenance for workers of their clients.

•Food services relating to meal preparation, inventory and ordering of food and condiments, sandwich makers for workers’ lunches, etc.
•Cleaning of kitchen equipment, dishes, etc.
•Laundry/linen service
•Maid services relating to making beds, cleaning of common areas, etc.

Workers may include chefs, cooks, bakers, sandwich makers, dishwashers, labourers, maids, janitors, drivers, sales and administrative staff.

Basically these operations are established to accommodate workers and provide sustenance on behalf of their clients. These facilities are typically unavailable to the general public.

Underwriting Considerations:

The catering of social and commercial events, as a stand-alone business, is classified in industry 87501.

While similarities with some occupations exist between camp catering and hotels and restaurants, there are also some significant differences that should be considered prior to assigning an industry classification.

Hotels/Motels typically cater to the general public, are easily accessible for convenience, offer many in-room amenities including private bath, room service and other specific services to enhance leisure and relaxation for their clients. Additionally, they offer services for banquets/catering, nightclubs, live entertainment and laundry/pressing services, among others. Overnight stays are generally for a short duration, perhaps a few days and may relate to business, pleasure or family vacations.

Restaurants exclusively offer meals and beverages throughout the day to walk-in clients or for home delivery. Their focus is on the preparation of meals for their clients, however, if licensed, will also provide alcoholic beverages served with a meal.

Industrial Camp shacks or trailer rentals and set-up are classified in industry 89922. Businesses that provide trailer rental/sales and set-up in addition to camp catering services require two classifications.
