This industry describes circumstances where private homeowners hire individuals to provide various (with emphasis) 'housekeeping' jobs at the homeowners’ residence.

Operation Details:

Work may be performed on an hourly, casual, part-time or full-time basis - activities which would or may normally be completed or performed by a homeowner such as:
- cleaning,
- washing clothes,
- cooking,
- baby-sitting,
- cutting lawns,
- maintaining flower gardens, etc.

This industry also includes live-in domestic help such as maids, nannies, chauffeurs, cooks, butlers, etc.

Any equipment/materials/tools are typically provided by the homeowner. The occupational mix in this classification is diverse and commensurate with the requirements of the homeowners.

Underwriting Considerations:

The key to being classified here is that the homeowner is the direct employer of workers providing these specified services and these services are provided exclusively at the homeowners' residence.

PERSONAL COVERAGE FOR THE HOMEOWNER IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THIS INDUSTRY.

This classification does NOT describe personal living assistance such as nursing, medication, bathing, etc., provided to maintain an individual’s independence, as in the case of seniors or physically challenged. Personal assistance living and housekeeping services is classified in Home Support Services, Industry 82704. No additional classifications are permitted between domestic help industry 87300 and home support services industry 82704.

A homeowner may NOT use this classification for any type of work relating to renovation, construction or trade specific work in their homes. A voluntary application can be requested under the appropriate trade category relating to the specific work being conducted. For example, Roofing - 42118, Deck Construction - 42143, Minor home repair or maintenance - 40401, etc.

A maid service is classified on a compulsory basis under industry 87301, as the homeowner is not contracting the individual but with the maid firm.
