Operation Details:

Businesses in this industry perform inspection services, providing written reports with recommendations; however, no corrective measures are offered or provided. These inspection services are not related to any product sales or any servicing or repair work.

Employers may use an office, related equipment, magnifying glass, measurement/handtools, cell-phone, and truck; and may employ technical staff, sales/estimators, and office/administrative staff.

Underwriting Considerations:

This industry voted not to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2013. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition are now eligible to be relieved from an employer’s experience records (on claims affecting 2013 premium rates and onwards). The industry will return to Standard Pricing and the cost relief levy will be added to the industry rate, as it is required fund cost relief.

Businesses providing building code inspections (boiler, electrical, etc.) do so as an independent third-party evaluation for compliance and are not connected to related sales, service or installation businesses.

This industry includes safety consulting services, safety audits, safety inspections or any combination thereof and includes the preparation of manuals or procedures pertaining to safety. Safety consulting, related to safety training and first aid techniques, is classified in industry 86927. Safety consulting, in conjunction with the sale and installation of safety equipment, is classified in industry 86905.

Businesses providing visual inspections for quality assurance on an ongoing basis; on behalf of the project owner during a construction project; or in connection with the fabrication of pipe, piping systems, vessels, etc.; are classified in industry 51506, on a compulsory basis. Visual inspection services for quality assurance on an ongoing basis, provided to a general contractor, are classified in the appropriate construction industry on a compulsory basis.

This industry withdrew from Industry Custom Pricing effective 2013.
