Industry Custom Pricing - CR

This industry includes playschools and kindergyms. These organizations provide cooperative recreational play programs that serve preschool children.

Operation Details:

Playschools are not regulated by the Department of Education and are generally run by associations. The playshool program provides preschool children, ages three to four years, with social interaction and an introduction to the school environment. Programs run two or three half days per week. Trained leaders and parent volunteers cooperate to administer the program, work with the children, prepare craft material, and coordinate program activities.

Kindergyms operate similar to playschools and are included in this industry. Kindergyms provide exercise programs for children aged one to five. The workers consist of parent volunteers and an instructor. Parents must be in attendance for children under three years of age; and, for children three to five years of age, the instructor is assisted by two or more volunteers.

Underwriting Considerations:

Baby-sitting services are, typically, sporadic part-time care provided for a few hours while the parent is away. Baby-sitting services are exempt under the General Regulations; however, a homeowner may request voluntary coverage for a baby-sitter, or any other domestic help including nannies that work within their home. If coverage is desired, the account would be open under industry 87300, Domestic Help; however, no personal coverage is available for the homeowner.

The operation of a kindergarten is regulated by the Department of Education and is classified under industry 80106.

Businesses that provide full-time and/or part-time child care are classified under industry 82801, Day Care Centres.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2010. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
