These are generally non profit organizations which receive funding through government grants, donations, fund raising and admissions.
Museums and interpretative centres will have different themes ranging from historical/cultural societies to space and science centres to aviation or archeological displays. Museums could have extensive restoration, assembly activities related to preservation and display of artifacts.
Art galleries are places where art is put on display for public view and are generally affiliated with the "National Museums of Canada". Art is purchased for permanent display and not for resale. Art restoration is included in this industry whether part the operations of the gallery or when conducted as a separate business.
Depending on how elaborate the displays are, personnel may be employed in the areas of cataloging, guiding, public relations (lecture, visit schools, etc.), ticket sales, food services, maintenance, janitorial, gardening and making display cases or other props.

Retail businesses which sell art, posters, prints, etc. and provide framing services are classified in industry 39901. Retail sales only, where framing services are not provided, either in-shop or through subcontract, are classified in industry 69904.
Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option
This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2011. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
