Industry Custom Pricing - ER

This industry covers all public, private, religious and community colleges, as well as the operation of student housing facilities when operated in conjunction with the college.

Operation Details:

All employees of colleges under the Colleges Act are covered, including all teachers, regardless of the subject they teach.

Section 3 of the General Regulations applies specific limitations to coverage for colleges which are not established pursuant to the Colleges Act. For example, teachers in this type of college are not covered, except while they are teaching courses in industrial education, home economics, or performing duties related to the teaching of these courses. Please reference the General Regulations for a complete list of coverage limitations for colleges that are not established pursuant to the Colleges Act.

If the college, not established in accordance with the Colleges Act, requires coverage for students engaged in work experience or practicum assignments, they must establish a Section 16 Deeming Order to deem these students to be workers of the College. An additional classification may be required to accomplish this. Please refer to the Classification Unit for confirmation.

Underwriting Considerations:

Students' associations at public, private, or religious colleges are not required to have coverage under the Workers' Compensation Act because they are identified as an 'Association which does not operate as an industry' under the General Regulations. However, if a students' association applies for voluntary coverage, they are classified in the same industry as the educational institution that their membership attends. Until 1993, students' associations were classified in industry 85921, Operation of Students Union Buildings.

The operation of seminaries are classified in this industry on a compulsory basis.
