School Boards

This classification covers all school boards, public and separate, set up under the authority of the Department of Education.

Operation Details:

This includes all school boards whether operated as divisions, districts or regional consolidations under provincial restructuring in 1994 and 1995. This classification covers all ECS, primary and secondary education services undertaken by school boards.

Except for certain academic staff, all workers of a school board are covered including clerical, maintenance, janitorial, bus drivers, librarians, etc.

Underwriting Considerations:

Coverage for administrative and teaching staff is regulated by Section 3 of the General Regulations of the Workers' Compensation Act. Please reference policy 06-01 of the Policies and Information Manual which details information on how worker's compensation legislation provides coverage for school employees and limits coverage for teachers and principals.

Private, independent or religious schools offering ECS, primary and secondary education services are classified under industry 80105.

Following regionalization of education services all school boards are elected independently of municipal governments and are classified separate from municipal operations.

Societies or Associations established to provide lunchroom supervision, playground or crosswalk monitoring or supervising the loading and unloading of buses are classified in this industry on a compulsory basis.
