Operation Details:

Greenware, often referred to as ceramics, is manufactured through the pouring of liquid or slip clay into plaster of paris molds. The molds may be left to dry or kiln cured under a low heat. After curing, these products are scraped or sanded to remove rough edges.

Pottery would be the hand forming of clay products using pugged clay, potters wheels, hand tools and kiln drying with a higher temperature heat. Greenware and pottery products are painted, stained, or glazed with glass forming compounds to produce the desired finished. This stage of the process requires kiln firing. The manufacturing of pottery and greenware covers the manufacture of clay based handicraft or giftware items such as; flower pots, clay bakers, ash trays, beer steins, soup ladles, coffee mugs, cups, saucers, lamps, vases, etc.

Stained glass products are made from sheets of pre-manufactured antique stained glass. Shapes are cut from these sheets and assembled in the desired patterns. A copper tape or lead channeling is applied to the edge of each piece and soldered at the joints to hold the pieces together. The edges are then sealed with a putty or glue. Clear antique glass may be used and repeatedly painted and fired (cured) until the desired affect is achieved.

Manufacturing decorative glassware would cover employers who reproduce a desired design on pre-manufactured glassware. Design reproduction would include the use of silk screening, decals or hand painting, to decorate items such as beer steins, drinking glasses, coffee mugs, ashtrays, plates, etc., mainly for advertising purposes. These articles are baked in kilns to harden the paint. This industry also includes transferring photographs to china plates and then glazing and baking them. Design reproduction would also include grinding or sandblasting artwork onto glass.

The manufacturing of sculptured art work made from metal (bronze, aluminum), plaster, wax, concrete or wood is classified in this industry with incidental casing. The manufactured products vary, but are artistic in nature.
