Merchandise includes washers and dryers, stoves, refrigerators, vacuums, sewing machines, etc. The delivery and set-up of the appliances is part of the industry. Many appliance dealers also provide a repair service as an integral part of their operations.

Sewing classes provided by sewing machine sales operations are part of the sales industry.

Underwriting Considerations:

If a company is primarily an appliance repair shop, they should be classified in industry 89908 - Small Equipment/Appliances - Rental/Service.

Electronic equipment sales are included in industry 67602.

Businesses that specialize in the sale, assembly and installation or just the installation of central vacuum systems are classified in industry 42131.

Businesses engaged in the distribution and/or sale of vacuum cleaners, other than central vacuum systems, are also compulsory. Retail businesses are classified in industry 67604 and wholesale distribution operations in industry 62900.

These businesses may contract with individuals for the direct marketing of vacuum cleaners through door to door sales. The status of these individuals is contingent on the contractual agreement with their supplier (or principal) and each case is determined on its own merits. Individuals deemed to be proprietors are not workers of their supplier and coverage may be provided in this industry through voluntary personal coverage.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2010. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
