This industry covers the sale of all types of home furnishings including kitchen, dining, bathroom and bedroom furniture and accessories. The industry also covers the sale of recreational items such as pool tables, shuffleboards, etc.

In support of retail operations, employers in this industry may have warehouse and delivery operations.

Underwriting Considerations:

No manufacturing or upholstering of furniture is allowed in this industry.

This industry can include the sale of office furniture in conjunction with home furnishings. Employers that sell only office furniture and equipment are classified in Industry 64200 – Department Stores. If installation of modular office furniture is conducted an additional classification, industry 42133, is required. The activities involved in the installation of the office cubicles, cabinets, sliding doors and desk tops extends beyond the setting in place of pieces of furniture.

Household electronics and appliances when sold in conjunction with furniture are classified in this industry. However, if sold exclusively, the businesses should be classified in either Industry 67602 – Entertainment Equipment or Industry 67604 – Appliance Sales or Svc.

Employers engaged exclusively in the sale of home decorating accessories or accents are classified in Industry 69904 – Novelty or Gift Stores.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2011. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
