This classification describes businesses which combine automobile/vehicle servicing with retail gas/fuel sales including diesel and propane.

Operation Details:

Businesses repair and service cars and light trucks, and also sell gas - both self-serve and full service. Businesses may also sell parts and accessories and convenience store items. It is recognized service stations may also operate a tow truck. Parts sales may be extensive and are an integral activity of businesses in this industry. Service stations may also operate a car wash as a secondary business endeavor.

Businesses may utilize a garage-type facility, hoists, pumps, handtools, and tow truck and may employ mechanics, labourers, pump jockeys/clerks, and office/administrative staff.

Underwriting Considerations:

Businesses that only service vehicles, with no gas or food sales, are classified in industry 65808. Gas bars and car wash-only businesses are classified in industry 65406. Gas bars that sell perishables such as dairy products, fruits and vegetables are classified in industry 63100. Service station operations may require an additional classification for restaurant operations in industry 87501.

Businesses primarily in the business of repairing mobile equipment, highway tractor units, or servicing diesel engines exclusively, are classified in industry 62201.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2010. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
