This industry describes, primarily, the sale and repair of farm and agricultural implements.

Operation Details:

Often businesses are equipment ‘distributors’ or ‘dealerships’ which may sell new and/or used farm and agricultural implements, such as, but not restricted to, tractors, combines, cultivators, plows, seeders, balers, etc. Dealers must supply warranty or after sales service and offer repairs as part of their franchise agreement. The sale of parts and complementary accessories is extensive and integral to businesses in the industry.

Some dealers may sell other product under the brand name, such as John Deere dealers that sell garden mowers and snowmobiles. In smaller and rural centers, it is recognized a distributor or dealership may operate a service station, gas bar, or car and truck sales-type operation.

Businesses may utilize a store/showroom, warehouse, forklift, truck for delivery, service bays and equipment/tools for service, and may employ heavy-duty mechanics, labourers, sales/marketing staff, office/administrative staff.

Underwriting Considerations:

Included in this industry are farm implement franchisers or implement manufacturers' representatives: companies such as John Deere Limited or J.I. Case provide dealer support services integral to the industry such as parts wholesaling, marketing, financing, training, etc.

In rural areas, it is recognized businesses may service farm implements, cars and trucks. When this type of business does not sell implements, it is classified as a general repair shop in industry 65808.

Businesses that sell mobile equipment are classified in industry 62201.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2009. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
