Closed Circuit TV/Cablevision

Industry Code: 54301

Compulsory

This industry is for businesses which sell, install, operate and service cablevision and closed circuit TV systems. Businesses classified here are providers of a cablevision or closed circuit television service. They obtain a satellite feed of various channels from several suppliers and sell this programming to subscribers.

Operation Details:

Cablevision has various segments:

Production facilities are maintained whereby US, British or other productions are brought in by microwave and satellite radio systems to a studio, where they are then distributed along with local Canadian productions through exclusive cable wire. Cable companies may also produce their own shows with the use of studio and mobile production equipment. Production, and the percentage of Canadian and foreign TV and radio program content, is regulated by the federal government (CRTC).

Closed circuit refers to closed loop broadcasts which are not sold to the general public but targetted to a specific market. Satellite bingos and closed circuit sporting events in specific lounges are good examples.

Buried cable is usually installed from the main line to the home in conjunction with Calgary Power and Telus lines. The aerial construction of cable lines on existing poles is performed and cable lines are connected for subscribers who reside in neighbourhoods where power lines, etc. are overhead. This may involve stringing overhead lines to the house, connecting either underground or overhead wiring to internal wiring, and internal wiring and hook-up within the structure.
