This classification describes regularly scheduled passenger bus lines, bus rentals and/or bus charter services operating locally, provincially, and interprovincially, and includes sightseeing bus tours.

Operation Details:

In the case of larger bus lines, it includes the operation of a bus depot or terminal transfer stations. Along with passengers, businesses may carry belly freight in the buses. Activities include driving, fueling, maintaining and cleaning buses, scheduling routes, selling tickets, and handling baggage and some freight.

Businesses may utilize different types and sizes of buses, baggage handling equipment, repair/service facility, depot/terminals, and may employ drivers, mechanics, baggage handlers, ticket takers, janitorial staff, sales/estimators, office/administration, and tour guides.

Underwriting Considerations:

The operation of school buses, shuttling children/students between home and school, usually according to a regularly scheduled route, is classified in industry 50801. Custom freight hauling, delivery and pick-up is classified in industry 50714.

Industry Custom Pricing: Modified Experience Rating

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2016. For employers participating in the Experience Rating Plan for Large Employers, the following experience rating features will be used in determining their premium rate:

- Maximum discount or surcharge of 60%
- Participation rate of 1% for every $2000 in premiums
- Maximum participation of 100%
- Maximum experience used of 100%
