This industry includes businesses that move all types of buildings of varying sizes, intact, from one location to another. Included are garages, sheds, houses, barns, historical homes, churches, elevators, etc.

Operation Details:

Heavy jacks are used to raise the building off the foundation and timbers are used to shore it up until it can be placed on a trailer for transport. The building is either rolled or winched onto a trailer the size of which varies according to the size of the building - mostly multi-axled for maximum weight distribution.

Trucks, trailers, pilot cars and heavy equipment; for the loading of the building, are the primary types of equipment used in this industry.

All employers in this industry are members of the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA). Safety associations represent the interests of employers and promote workplace safety through education and other initiatives. Improved workplace safety can result in fewer claims and help lower premiums. A portion of premiums collected is allocated to the association to support these initiatives.

Underwriting Considerations:

Pilot cars are integral to this industry and are only classified in industry 50701, Specialized Trucking, if conducted independently of the building movers operations.

The transporting of industrial camp trailers to remote job sites is covered in industry 89922, when conducted in conjunction with the rental and leasing operations of the trailers.
