Operation Details:

Soil samples are taken using a drill which may be truck, track or skid mounted. These samples are then analyzed in the field or laboratories however, employers in this industry do not analyze the samples they procure.

Businesses in this industry will utilize trucks, mounted drilling units, bits, pumps, casing/shafts, piping, handtools, and filtering systems. Underwriting Considerations:

Activities in this industry involve very similar equipment and purpose as diamond or deep core drilling (industry 42130) which involves drilling to depths ranging from 100 to 1500 feet.

Businesses which procure soil samples and provide subsequent land reclamation services are classified under industry 40604, Land Reclamation.

Businesses which provide rat hole drilling and rig anchoring services are classified in industry 09904; businesses providing horizontal/angular drilling services are classified in industry 42103; and businesses which provide shot hole drilling services are classified in industry 09201. Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2011. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.

In 1992, rate group 421200 was established, consolidating a number of drilling businesses which use similar drilling, boring and augering activities, equipment, processes and occupational mixes. In 1999, rate group 421200 was consolidated with Shot Hole Drilling, rate group 092101, in Sector 2 - Mining and Petroleum Development.
