Operation Details:

Central vacuum systems are assembled using components such as electric motors, relays, circuit breakers, cords, and an exterior shell. Installation of the vacuum unit can be done with hand tools. To accommodate easier movement of the vacuum's metal or plastic piping system within a building, holes may be cut in walls and floors. Outlets are affixed to walls, the vacuum unit is connected to power, and the vacuum unit is activated when its hose is inserted into an outlet.

Businesses may also sell related items such as vacuum heads, filters, fresheners, etc. and may use a truck, hand tools and saws. Workers typically consist of technical staff, handymen, labourers, sales clerks, estimators, and office and administrative staff.

Underwriting Considerations:

As this industry is a sales and installation classification, businesses may also sell upright vacuums and other types, and these activities are included in industry 42131. Businesses that only sell and service regular vacuums are classified in industry 67604.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2009. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
