Operation Details:

Wooden power poles are inspected for signs of rot or weakness and guy cables are also tension expected. Poles are visually inspected and sounded with the blunt side of a hammer or mallet. Poles that do not satisfy inspection are marked for removal from service. Inspections most often take place in the power/utility company's yard, before being sent to the field for placement. Guy cable testing involves taking stress readings using a hand-held unit for stress measurement. Guy cables may be adjusted for proper tension by using handtools to tighten.

Equipment involves little more than handtools, checklist, and a truck, and workers may consist of technical staff, labourers, sales/estimators, and office/administrative staff.

Underwriting Considerations:

Mechanical wood staining activity is classified in Mfg Plywood (industry 27103).
