Paving and surfacing is an activity-specific undertaking in the completion of road construction or repaving, resurfacing or scraping of existing streets/roads/parking lots/driveways.

Operation Details:

Businesses may utilize an assortment of mobile equipment: graders, dozers, rollers, loaders, asphalt spreaders, hot oil tankers, line markers, etc., and regularly utilize trucks to transport and unload the asphalt.

Businesses may operate in conjunction with its paving business an asphalt batch plant operation. Some incidental curb and gutter concrete work is permitted when conducted as part of the overall paving contract. This classification includes line-marking of stripes on the pavement, sealing and pot hole repair.

Workers may include equipment operators, plant operators, engineers, technical staff, mechanics, laborers, sales/estimators, flag persons, and office/administrative staff.

All employers in this industry are members of the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA). Safety associations represent the interests of employers and promote workplace safety through education and other initiatives. Improved workplace safety can result in fewer claims and help lower premiums. A portion of premiums collected is allocated to the association to support these initiatives.
