Industry Code: 30302
This industry is for those businesses who install or repair overhead doors and roll shutters. Overhead doors are common to industrial buildings, warehouses and residential garages while roll shutters are an exterior window covering used for light and energy control along with security applications.
Operation Details:
Overhead doors may be constructed of wood, metal or fiberglass and come from the manufacturer in sections. The doors are equipped with rollers, rails, and springs.
The installation and repair of such doors can be accomplished with hand tools and equipment such as scaffolding or man lifts. Each door may be different, however they commonly come in pieces that require assembly and erection, and most would operate on a spring system, either mechanically or by remote (with motor). Repair can involve panel, spring and motor replacement, balancing and leveling along with track adjustments.
The installation of roll shutters is quite similar to that of overhead doors.
All employers in this industry are members of the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA). Safety associations represent the interests of employers and promote workplace safety through education and other initiatives. Improved workplace safety can result in fewer claims and help lower premiums. A portion of premiums collected is allocated to the association to support these initiatives.
Underwriting Considerations:
It is common for businesses dealing in overhead doors to also be involved in the sale and installation of windows and a full line of hinged passageway doors as well automatic and sliding doors for commercial applications. Such dealers often have extensive showroom and display areas with retail sales of related door hardware. All such operations, when conducted in conjunction with overhead door businesses, are classified in industry 30302.
Industry 30302 does not include manufacturing operations. The manufacturing of overhead doors, roll shutters, etc. would be classified in the appropriate manufacturing industry.
