Businesses in this industry may provide only one of the services listed under the general business activities section, or they may provide a combination of services. Personnel may be employed to feed, wash, exercise, train and groom pets; in addition to cleaning animal housing facilities, booking appointments and addressing client concerns, or instructing pet owners on pet care or obedience.

Businesses in this industry may also raise breeds of domestic amimals for sale to the public or to pet stores, and/or provide stud services or quarantining.

Kennels and pet grooming salons may also sell a variety of pet foods and supplies; however, the primary business is that of a kennel or pet grooming salon.

Underwriting Considerations:

Kennels provide pet services on behalf of the pet owner, whereas pounds and shelters operate on behalf of a municipality to enforce animal bylaws, pick up stray animals and destroy unclaimed animals. The operation of a pound or shelter is classified in industry 02116, Pounds and Shelters.

Businesses which provide mobile pet care services to care for pets at the owners residence while they are away, as well as collect mail, water plants, etc. are classified in industry 87301, Maid Service.
