Industry Code: 02116

Compulsory
Industry Custom Pricing - CR

This industry includes businesses that operate animal shelters or pounds, where stray or unwanted animals are housed on a temporary basis.

Operation Details:

Pounds employ personnel to pick up stray animals, clean cages, feed animals, place or sell the animals and when necessary, terminate the animals. The purpose of a pound is to hold stray animals until they can be picked up by the owner, sold or disposed of.

Animal shelters are generally run by humane societies which are non-profit organizations. In addition to employing personnel to run the shelter, these societies will employ constables under the Police act to perform inspection work. The inspections ensure animals are housed, handled and fed in a humane manner. Veterinarians are also employed to provide animals with pre-adoption shots, spay or neuter, and provide post-adoption health examinations.

Businesses under contract with a municipality to enforce animal by-laws are also included in this industry.

Underwriting Considerations:

Businesses that provide pet services such as temporary housing or pet grooming services on behalf of the owner of the pet, are classified under industry 02117, Kennels and Pet Grooming Services.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option
