Operation Details:
Manure is removed from barns, corrals and feed lots with the intention of it being hauled for disposal at other sites, or to be placed in trucks with spreaders to distribute as fertilizer on farm fields.
Custom application of manure (solid organic fertilizer) is classified in this industry.
Employers will typically utilize front-end loaders, and gravel-type dump trucks equipped with spreading units or attachments to permit the manure to be spread out on fields or on trucks to be hauled and disposed of at other sites.
Workers will be equipment operators, truck drivers, labourers or farmhands.
Underwriting Considerations:
This industry does not include the vacuum removal and disposal of liquid manure; instead, that activity is classified in Industry 06306 – Wet/Dry Vacuum Removal.
Companies that offer custom application (spreading), distribution and sales of synthetic fertilizers without the operation of a grain elevator are classified in Industry 60800 – Bulk Petroleum Dealers. If synthetic fertilizer sales are done in conjunction with the operation of a grain elevator, that activity is classified in Industry 52400 – Grain/Seed Handling Operations.
Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option
This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2010. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
