This industry is a supportive yard and grounds maintenance and enhancement activity that serves the landscaping industry. Businesses are specific only to spraying fertilizer and/or weed control substances in residential and/or commercial applications.
Operation Details:
By individual call or seasonal contract, employers spray appropriate fertilizer and weed control solutions by truck-mounted backpack spray units. Employers may also do a soil analysis to determine conditions for the nutrients (fertilizer type) required.
Businesses may have a chemical mix plant, storage tanks or facility, warehouse, trucks, equipment repair facilities, and employ chemists, technical staff, horticulturists, labourers, sales/estimators, office/administration staff.
Underwriting Considerations:
This is not the same undertaking as right of way maintenance or industrial vegetation control (see industry 02200). Industrial vegetation control includes chemical application activities, but is typically conducted in rural areas on roads, driveways, alleys, and remote access routes such as powerlines and above ground pipelines, to keep trees, shrubs, weeds, etc. in remote areas away from linear facilities.
Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option
This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2010. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry. In return, the portion of premiums collected to fund retroactive cost relief has been removed from the industry rate, resulting in a reduction in WCB premium rates for the industry.
