Industry Code: 01802

Exempt

This industry covers farms and other agricultural operations that offer experiences to the general public that are rural in nature and are in support of the activities of the farm or operation. Businesses included in this industry are u-pick farms, guest ranches, roadside stands/markets and seasonal festivals.

Operation Details:

U-pick farms offer the general public the opportunity to harvest or pick their own fruit and vegetables. Such businesses may also offer other attractions/activities including corn mazes, seasonal festivals and farm to table dinners. Space may also be rented out for weddings or other special occasions.

Guest ranches provide accommodation in addition to activities such as trail rides, cattle drives, fishing, river rafting and cattle branding. Accommodation can be basic (tents or cabins) or more luxurious (houses with spa amenities).

Roadside or farm stands are included in this industry when agricultural or farm products are sold directly to consumers at a stand or kiosk. Farmers selling their own goods on or near their farm will have those operations classified as part of their overall operations in the appropriate farming industry.

Underwriting Considerations:

Guest ranches that provide only accommodation are classified under industry 87503 – Hotels/Convention Centres. Guest ranches that also operate a functional farm should be reviewed for multiple industries. If policy for more than one industry cannot be met, all operations should be classified in the most appropriate farming industry.

The operation of a farmers' market is classified under Industry 89702 – Property Management/Hostels.
