Feed Lots

Industry Code: 01201

Exempt
Industry Custom Pricing - CR

This industry classification covers the operation of feed lots, either private, custom or a combination of both. The main objective of these businesses is to "finish" cattle for the meat processing industry.

Operation Details:

Cattle, weighing approximately 600 lbs, are delivered from cow/calf operators to the feed lot and fed until they reach the optimum weight for market. Once finished, the animals are shipped to a processing plant.

Large fenced lots or corrals are maintained to hold the stock. The activities include construction, maintenance and cleaning of corrals. Feed lot operators may also have grain/silage production and feed mill operations to support the feeding of the cattle. Feed would be delivered from the feed mill by truck to holding pens. Other activities would include dehorning, branding, castration and vaccination.

Underwriting Considerations:

Feed lots may be operated in conjunction with processing plants however, an additional classification is usually required as the processing plant does not rely solely on the related feed lot for its supply of animals.

Industry Custom Pricing: Waiving Cost Relief Option

This industry has chosen to participate in Industry Custom Pricing effective January 1, 2009. Costs related to the aggravation of a pre-existing condition will not be removed from the experience record of employers classified in this industry.
